George Washington and White Post, Virginia

White Post, Virginia is a sleepy little town in northwest Virginia, south of Winchester.  On a lark, I got off the highway as I saw some interesting looking gravestones and churches I wanted to photograph.  It seems there was a story behind the town's name.  This is one of those great little discoveries you find only when you're curious; when you decide to turn around and go back for a closer look.

A small plaque attached to the white post in the center of White Post.

Your humble blogger standing next to the white post in White Post, Virginia.

  1. I imagine the post has been hit by cars once or twice over the years.

  2. Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing! You know, a road hazard like this should be immediately removed least some poor, unsuspecting, good-hearted soul partake in a bit too much grog at the local tavern and mow it down one night--then sue the good people of White Post for damages to his jalopy!!!
