Only on the East Coast: The National Museum of Man

There is something about this brass plaque riveted to the concrete wall along Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C.  There is a permanence to it.  Just like the museum, whose exhibits date back thousands and millions of years.  As far as I know, this is the only sign that proclaims the National Museum of Man.  You don't see it in any of the Smithsonian literature.  It has become my favorite sign in the city; old, weathered, beaten and missing two of the ornate rivet caps fixing it to the wall.   Just like natural history...imperfect and worn.
